This beautiful, sculptural lamp depicts the famous veil dancer, Loïe Fuller in action. Originally from America, she lived in Paris and performed regularly at the Follies Bergère. (Wikipedia: Loïe Fuller)
The lamp was described as “One of the hallmarks of the French Art Nouveau” by the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. This piece was shown in their 2008 exhibit: Rococo: The Continuing Curve.
This exquisite sculpture is François-Raoul Larche’s (French, 1860-1912) best known work. Executed by the Siot-Decauville foundry in Paris, it bears the foundry’s stamp, the artist’s signature and is in excellent condition.
